Dear Potential New Members,
I know what you're thinking. Recruitment is scary and a little intimidating. Girlfriends, don't worry! Alpha Chi Omega has got your back, and we want to give you some advice before going through recruitment at the University of Tennessee!
Stick to your values and be honest with yourself. We want you to find a house that best fits your personality. Don't morph yourself or your personality just to "fit in." Finding the house that you are the most comfortable in is a major key in making your college experience worthwhile.
Every house has something special to offer. It's true. Trust the system and you will find your home. No house is bad, and no house is better than the rest. Each one is special, so find the one that is most special to you.
Be open minded. Don't listen to the stereotypes about each house. They are not true. People talk, and people gossip. Don't listen to their comments about the houses because, quite honestly, they are wrong. The only people who know about each house are the women who are a part of them. Listen to what the girls have to say when you're visiting each house. Don't listen to what the outsiders have to say.
Choose a house with women who are like you already not women who you want to be like. Find a house with girls who share common interests and morals as you. It will make you feel at home and comfortable, and that is so important. Being in a house full of women you want to be like will lead you on a continuous path of trying to be someone you're not. Stay true and be you!
EAT AND HYDRATE. Seriously. Your physical health during recruitment cannot be forgotten. Days are going to be long so eat food and drink water as much as possible. It sounds like a silly reminder, but sometimes it can slip your mind when you're busy and even a little stressed. SO DON'T FORGET!
Pref the house that feels right for you. Just because your mom, sister, aunt, or cousin was in one house does not mean it will be the best fit for you too. Pick what YOU like. Your opinion and choice are the most important. Don't let anyone else influence your decision. (For real. That includes your roommate! They may have a completely different experience than you, and that’s okay. Let her do her, and you do you.)
Be real. Be you. We love you just the way you are. Show us who you are and tell us about your passions. We are so excited to meet you and hope you are excited as well!
With all the love in the world,
Alpha Chi Omega
